Court Registry Relocates to Dodoma: A Significant Shift in Legal Administration

10th February 2025

Recent publication of Tanzania Court of Appeal (Amendment) GN No. 49 of 2025. The Rules have amended rule 6 (1) by deleting the word “Dar es Salaam” and substituting it with word “Dodoma”. This amendment implies that the Registry of the Court of Appeal of Tanzania is relocated to Dodoma. The reallocation of the Registry to Dodoma marks a notable administrative shift for the Tanzanian Court of Appeal.

It should be remembered that before these amendments rule 6 (1) of Tanzania Court of Appeal Rules, 2009 provided that Registry of the Court of Appeal of Tanzania shall be situated at Dar es salaam. The amendments effectively designate Dodoma as the Registry. However, where the Court is sitting or about to sit in any place other than Dodoma for the purpose of any application or appeal to be heard in that place, the Registry is deemed to be situated in that place. It is important for the legal fraternity and the general public to take note of the reallocation of the Registry to Dodoma as it marks a notable administrative shift for the Tanzanian Court of Appeal.
